FAQ
How much multimedia can an eLearning course include?
What you are trying to accomplish will determine the answer. If you are looking for a quick way to deliver information, then less is probably better. For those who are interested in delivering training that will teach people how they can do something, though, it may be worth having more.
It is important to understand what you want from your eLearning course. You also need to understand what your learners expect from your course. This will enable your course to be able to deliver the content necessary to accomplish your objectives.
You can take this example:
You should include many examples of text documents to help people learn how to use Microsoft Word. You would also need to demonstrate many different spreadsheets to help people learn Excel.
It is also important to decide whether you plan to use images or video to illustrate concepts.
Video is great at showing how to do something, but not so well for explaining complex topics. It can also be expensive to produce. While images are more affordable to produce, they do not convey the same emotional impact as videos.
The bottom line is to think carefully about the end result before designing your eLearning courses.
What equipment is required for eLearning?
The most important thing you need to do when you start an online course is to ensure you have everything set up correctly on your computer. Adobe Captivate will be your best choice.
It is also important to ensure that you have all necessary software on your computer. This includes Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Reader Flash Player Java Runtime Environment QuickTime 7 & Shockwave Flash 10.0.
A screen capture program like Camtasia Studio by TechSmith may be something you might want to try. It allows to capture what is happening on the computer screen while you're working.
A web conferencing tool such as WebEx or GoToMeeting might be a good choice. These programs allow you and others to view the same presentation simultaneously. They let you share your Desktop with others.
What should my course in eLearning look like?
Your eLearning course should be designed in such a way that it encourages your learners to interact with the material.
This means that both the design and content must be simple to use.
This also means that content must be engaging and interesting.
These requirements must be met in your eLearning course. Here are three things you should focus on:
Content
It is important to determine what content you would like to include in an eLearning course. Not only should you decide what content to include, but also how long each section should take. You will decide how much time each topic should be covered if you're teaching someone how write letters.
Navigation
You must also decide how your learners will navigate your course. Do you want them clicking through each page one by one? Or would you prefer them to go directly to certain parts of the course?
Design
The last step is to decide the appearance of your course. This includes deciding how long each screen will take to load and how big the font size should be. You also need to decide whether you want to have graphics included (such as pictures).
Once you have made all of these decisions, you need to test your course to see if it works well.
